It’s that time of year again. E3 is a little over a week away, and the rumors are running wild. It would be impossible for any event to live up to the hype and expectations that surround E3. It’s kinda like Christmas for gamers, but instead of gifts, we get a heavy dose of hype and a brand new shopping list, which is usually followed by broken promises and financial stress, but lets not get negative here. It’s no time to be a Scrooge. The most magical time of year is upon us, so allow me to me to get wrapped up in the wonder that is E3 2010.
To get in the spirit, I thought I’d present my recipe for the perfect E3.
Disclaimer: Since I only own Playstation hardware and don’t give a crap about anything Microsoft or Nintendo related, most of my list will focus on the Sony press conference. Also, these are only what I hope happens and not meant to be realistic predictions.
1) The Move: Sony will announce at least one motion control game that makes my pants tight. In other words, they will give me a reason to buy the damn things. Also, pricing will be announced, and it will be affordable.
2) Valve: Those crybabies at Valve will say something remotely positive about the PS3. Comments about its user base don’t count.
3) Zombies: I love zombies, and I love the PS3. E3 will show me a PS3 zombie game that’s worth buying. Whether it’s Dead Rising 2, a Left 4 Dead port, or something completely new, I want to have fun killing zombies before 2010 is over.
4) Big Non-Japanese PSP game: Will Sony show off a non-Japanese PSP game that proves to be a big deal? In my perfect world they will! Uncharted PSP anyone?
5) PSP2: A lot of insiders have been talking about the PSP2 lately, so I’d be surprised if it’s not announced, but at my E3, the PSP2 will not only have advanced graphics it will also be a phone.
6) PSN Premium Service: Very simple here. Sony will make this worthwhile. Lots of firm commitments and very few ambiguities.
7) Teasers: There will be teasers for 2 brand new games and at least 2 of the following games: Agent, Uncharted 3, Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal, or GTA V (god help me.)
8) Gameplay Trailers: We will see gameplay trailers for 5 of the following: Infamous 2, Resistance 3, Crysis 2, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows, MGS: Rising, new GOW PSP, Resident Evil PSP, or Last Guardian.
9) Live On Stage Demos: How about this? Littlebigplanet 2, SOCOM 4, and Killzone 3. Safe I know.
10) 3D: Sony will finally admit that 3D is a bad idea and will devote their time and resources into something people actually care about.
11) Something Old: PSN will start offering PS2 titles for download. There will be several Blu-ray HD rerelease collections confirmed.
12) Something Borrowed: Sony fans will get something that belonged to Microsoft. Whether its Bungie’s new game or (Please God!) Mass Effect, it will be a great feeling.
13) Something Big: I want to crap my pants in excitement at least once. Is that too much to ask?
